Supported housing making a difference
Supported housing is more than a place to live. It brings together a safe, secure home and tailored support, helping people build confidence, maintain their independence and feel part of their community.
Everyone’s circumstances are different, so the right support looks different too. It can include help to manage a tenancy, develop practical skills, stay connected to others and live as independently as possible.
A small move with a big difference
Recently, our teams supported a customer to move from one supported living home to another, just across the driveway. The customer and her friend had known each other for many years and were supported by the same care team. However, vacancies had meant they were both living alone.
Working with social care, on-site support colleagues and an occupational therapist, we adapted the neighbouring home to make the move possible. This included changes to door-opening systems and the fire alarm, as well as new ceiling hoists.
The customer is now settled in her new home, living alongside her friend again and enjoying the companionship, familiarity and sense of community that had been missing.
It’s a powerful example of how listening to customers and working together can make a meaningful difference to everyday life.
Independent Living, together
At Marram Green in Kessingland, Suffolk, our Housing with Care scheme gives customers their own homes alongside access to care, support and a welcoming community.
As Tomasz, a Mencap support worker at the scheme, says: “This is home. This is like family.”
